No ideawhen BR go their first Sonic but their has been one in Ponchatoula since the late 70’s.
I remember going to the Oneal location around 97 or 98.
First I remember ever going to was in or near New roads I think. It was the late 80s. Of course, this could have been a completely different car hop fast food place but it definitely felt like a Sonic.

Which came first, Sonic or the Knucklecheck?

I'm 75% sure that I'm correct that there was one on Florida Blvd in the 80s and that they used to have classic car shows there some weekends. Maybe someone older than me will remember. My buddies dad had a 60s Mustang that we used to take to them.

Yeah that sounds right, that Florida Blvd area back in the day was a high traffic area/popular area

A few months ago, I stopped off an exit in South Montgomery..it was just like Florida Blvd, you could tell back in the day, it used to be the place to be. A huge abandoned hotel like the Bellemont, an abandoned Shoney's, etc

I don’t remember any until all the fast tracs closed up shop.

My wife was born in Ensley and lived in Wylam in Birmingham in the 70s-80s. "Downtown" Wylam is basically a main drag with busted or boarded up windows. Place looks like shite. You can tell it was probably a vibrant area 40 years ago. Florida ain't that bad yet but it's probably headed that way.

The earliest I remember was the one at Airline and N. Foster. Baker had one later.

Yeah Florida and Airline actually looked a little better than this exit in Montgomery....I went to Hardee's and hauled arse out.it's a shame looking at these places that used to be so vibrant, now just run down and garbage...
c'est la vie

Florida would have potential for some gentrification if the north side wasn't such a shithole. It's sad.

no doubt, plus just off the pure location, close to downtown, can get to Jefferson Hwy/Town Center within reasonable quick time..then out to Livingston as well

There used to an old one in Plauquemine, LA off Hwy 1. And it's the earliest I remember. I never went to it myself because in its later years it was a run-down shithole.
Probably opened in the 70s. It was this style:
It had this type of intercom system (Order Matic).
