My brother claims there was no shootout between the bikers. That is was all cops targeting bikers, who were doing nothing wrong.

I have no idea who your brother is nor was I there that day or have any connection to anyone who was. But my best guess is that the truth of what happens lays somewhere in the middle between those who think the bikers did no wrong and those who think the cops did no wrong.
My best guess is there was some sort of fight in the parking lot between two groups of bikers from at least two different MC's. It's possible this fight was started by CI's implanted by the Feds, although that's not been substantiated. The cops who had the place surrounded already reacted to this fight by opening fire into the crowd in the parking lot hitting both those who were guilty of taking part in the fight as well as others who were innocent bystanders. After the shooting stopped, they rounded up everyone in a leather vest and charged almost all of them of felony crimes. It did not matter if they had anything to do with the fight or not.
