Solar City - good or bad deal?

I saw a guy pushing Solar City in Home Depot the other day. Solar City will install solar panels at zero cost to me, and I have to buy electricity from them and a reduced cost. Solar City will maintin the system at their cost.
Has anybody done this? Is there a "gotcha" or any other potential downside to this?

Would you eventually own the panels out right, or do have to pay them indefinitely?

Installer I knew in Cali was pissed because they went with Chinese panels and ditched their American manufacturing. He felt that the Chinese panels lasted half as long. That's all I got.

If this is your forever home then I'm not sure that I see much of an advantage over buying the panels outright. However, all maintenance being included in your fees could eliminate hassle down the road. The bigger question is how much cheaper are the monthly bills vs traditional utilities?
Long term, you would still be paying a monthly bill even after the panels have been paid off. Compare this to panels you own outright that would allow you to have little to no bill from day one.

so, you make no payments at all except an agreement to buy power from them?...
are you responsible for purchasing a certain amount of power per month?...suppose you go on vacation and just don't use much power?...
how long are you bound to this arrangement?....
suppose you change your mind after a year...is there some massive payoff that you have to make?...
most importantly, how much will the power cost that you are agreeing to purchase?....

My understanding is that it is a 10-20 percent savings on electricity. I think that even if I don't use much electricity, Solar City will sell what I don't use to the utility company.
