High school kids look at grade, not age. Soph vs Sr is not that taboo. And 18 is a normal age for a Sr, I don’t know what high school y’all went to

What does this mean? Is this a euphemism? Or did they really play games in the yard?

The big picture here that is being lost is you need to trust your kids more than threatening their dates. If a guy sees a daughter has a good relationship with her father, they’ll great her differently. Not that they won’t pound her, given the chance, but raising them with a good moral compass will help a lot.

Again, pure insanity
You do you.i, as a fsther, judge others moral character at decison time. I would talk to the "adult" 18 year old exactly like that...hes an adult. If he doesnt like it, who cares..haul arse
She's 16! She wont marry this guy, he wont date hwr past this year, there is ZERO future there....ZERO
So please tell me why i would ever consent. His motives are not pure, and you damn well know it.
Sure, shell get mad, but a month later, she'll find out something about him and see what hes really about at his age

Wouldn’t happen here. Not today, not tomorrow not any day. the 18year old needs to find someone his own age.
Posted on 6/23/19 at 10:51 am to Bedhog
Chaperoned date. That is the solution. Some Cubans still do that until the girl is 18 and some go till 21.
Posted on 6/23/19 at 10:54 am to Bedhog
It’s not necessarily a bad thing, OP. Since he’s a little older he probably knows how to make sure your daughter is brought to orgasm while getting railed.

I really don't see how they aren't getting this
I guess they lock their daughters in towers and never let them date anyone if that's the concern
ETA: And I'd bet they'd be highfiving their 15 year old son going out with a female senior

Indeed.
There are a lot of hypocritical and sick perverts on this website that claim to be so horrified about teenagers being parents when they cheer on and hardleg grown arse women fricking teenage/little boys while screaming bloody murder if some teenage or older dude so much as looks in their precious little girl's direction.

What is more dangerous about an 18 year old male compared to a 15-16 year old male?
Do 18 year olds somehow magically get super strong, predatory and evil when they hit their 18th birthday?
Are 15-16 year old males as pure and innocent as a basket of puppies and weaker than 18 year olds?

I see Darth isn't the only that loves to make absolutist statements like every single 18 year old male is the same.

Soph vs Sr
I have a girl who will be a sophomore next year and a son that will be a senior next year. My wife also taught HS math for several years.
Most of the instances of this that I’ve seen are situations where the Soph girl was “trying to be grown”, or the Senior boy (for whatever reason) didn’t quite “fit” in with his upperclassmen peers.
Not saying this is always the case, but there is in fact a pretty well establish social line between underclassmen and upperclassmen. Also, the maturity levels take a pretty big leap between these two groups.
I won’t go as far as to take Darth’s hardline stance, but as a parent, I don’t think it’s prudent at all to just look at that situation and say “meh, they’re both in HS”. At a minimum you want to start asking some questions.

Yea I don’t think it’s a huge issue and I’ve got 2 older daughters. My 20 y/o is dating a 23 y/o and were 19 and 22 when they started dating. I know that’s older but I trust an 18 more than a 16 y/o. I dated a 17 y/o when I was 21 and an 18 y/o when I was 25. Then I moved on at 25 and dated a 34 y/o and married her
The guy being 18 doesn’t make him bad. Now her being 15 I’d probably cut it off at 19 or so. Overall depends on the guy though
ETA: Clarification for last sentence. I mean 19 would be too old, 18 is oldest I’d allow 15 y/o to date

Generalizing here, but an 18 yo boy is going to be a little bit ahead of the 16 yo cognitively and likely more skilled at persuading people to do things. He’ll also likely be more confident.
And just to reiterate my post above, I don’t think this makes it a complete no-go, but as a dad, that’s something that I’m thinking about so I’m going to be a little more vigilant than if my daughter was going out with another sophomore.

Now this is a mature, intelligent and well reasoned point of view that has experience backing it up.
Not something you see very often on the OT.
Well done.
