When I toured EHS, the middle school kids all had personal iPads. The High School kids all had laptops. Every classroom had a smart board and at least 6 computers in addition to their personal computers. Teachers taught using the smart boards, capabilities of which I had not known existed. Each kid has a login on their school website with an email account. Students and teachers communicated after hours this way. Assignments were posted online. Grades were accessible online as well as club information, homework, tests (both scores and copies of the tests). Some assignments and tests were taken online, at the students convenience either timed or open book.

All of that is pretty standard at private schools

It is kind of expensive (like $20k a kid) which is out of my range. At least I saw and know who my future bosses will be now.

Not even close to $20,000 per kid.

Wanna bet? One full year with all added expenses is a bit over $20k and depending on extracurricular activities can go up considerably from there.

6 th grade is the only one with iPads. The rest of middle school uses old Dell Netbooks. Next year all of middle school will get iPads. Upper school most use Mac Books.

EHS Tuition

LINK

Grade Amount
Pre-K 8,200
K 10,660
1 – 3 11,480
4 11,993
5 13,530
6 – 8 14,965
9 – 12 15,273

what other added expenses and extracurricular activities would add an additional $7k-$10K

From what I saw, they might have some OT Baller stuff like cigar room, steak aging chamber, limo wash, satellite uplink, travel reservations, personal valet and stuff like that.

Lunch fee, technology fee, transportation fee, book fee, computer fee, advanced placement fee, athletic fee, tuition cancellation fee, commencement fee and all of the various clubs, field trips etc...not to mention cornerstone or scholarship, endowment donations.

Some are optional but in the end middle school and up it's $20k at the end of the day.

For a senior I would estimate that on average you're looking at around $18k-$20k not including donations which that can vary quite a bit between different families.

Of course lower grades would be less.

I nut the check chief. And what I just tucked into my package that is being delivered to my accounting firm is a total for 2013 of $21,655.00. And I can guarantee another grand of just typical kid expenses aren't counted in that number.

At SSA we all had laptops. I think it's becoming more common.

ETA we had Lenovo Thinkpad laptops which turned into stylus -enabled tablets, so we could take notes in math classes...some girls liked it, but I much preferred good old pencil and paper.

All schools are moving to laptops and iPads. In 2-3 years all the standardized testing will be done on computers. For all grades. There will be no more No2 pencils.
