I'm sorry, I thought that was pretty clear. My issue is using GPA to determine class rank, which can determine automatic acceptance into a university, when the potential difference between being in the top 10% of your class can be a thousandth of a point on your GPA.

Were you a valedictorian? Depending on where you apply for college, this may automatically get you a scholarship.
ETA: I do agree that the cum laude is an ideal scenario
