So I broke my fibula - no cast?

Long story short, a malfunctioning pool ladder had me looking like a gif from the fail gif thread. Leg caught between rungs.
This happened Sunday afternoon, I wasn't about to go spend 4 hours Sunday in the ER so I hobbled around and went to the ortho today. Upper fibula is broken about 3-4 inches below my knee. Doctor says no cast, no brace, I can be weight bearing as the fibula only carries about 15% of the weight in the leg. It hurts of course, walking is an adventure, but no ligament damage.
Wife and all her colleagues that are nurses are shocked at no cast, weight bearing, etc. anyone ever heard of anything like this or do I need to get a second opinion

Story of my life. Just take a hot shower, then wrap a towel around your head.

I'm gonna need to see some xrays before giving out unqualified medical advice.

Typical fibula fractures aren’t fix if they are above the syndesmosis which is really close to the ankle joint

Your wife’s nurse friends are dumb. It’s like a broken toe or tailbone. You can’t really cast that unless it’s down in the ankle. They don’t do much for fibulas.

I broke my fibula many years ago and had the option of a cast for a quicker heal + PT, or just walking on it and it healing naturally and would require no PT.

Get pain pills from doctor. You may need them occasionally while you heal up and continue to walk on it. Get a lawyer too.
