Ehh, probably just dumped their dead offshore so sharks and other creatures would dispose of them. The original “green” burial, and doesn’t pollute drinking water, they were just way ahead of their time.

It wasn't offshore then. Sea levels were much lower and this was dry land (with a peat deposit).
Similar finds in the North Sea at Dogger Banks which were also emergent when glaciers were massive and covered the North.
