Maybe we need to celebrate a Leisure Day

Federal holiday just means no banks and no mail.
Real holidays are the ones most people get a day off.

How about this suggestion?
Move Labor Day to the first Monday in August since most schools start that early anyway now.
Then add September 11 as a Federal Holiday observed on the Friday or Monday closest to the date. If September 11 falls on a Wednesday, in even years it is observed on a Friday, odd years on a Monday.
Adding a holiday in August would leave the March or April timeframe without a major holiday since Easter can fall in either March or April depending on the church calendar. But also the observance of the Easter holiday varies since the markets are closed only half a business day on Good Friday and are open on Monday after Easter. Also, some government offices do not observe the Easter holiday either.

My money is on an eventual federal holiday celebrating something LGBTQIA+ for the month of August

I'm sure they'll make up a black or gay/ trans thing to have a federal holiday
ETA: Looks like badEx was thinking the same thing

I know it is not a holiday, but don’t they parade that rainbow crap during the entire month of June.
They do not need anymore exposure.

I have to believe that this would cause eye-rolling on both sides of the political spectrum considering we just got Juneteenth as a federal holiday and an entire “pride month”.
Maybe I’m wrong but I don’t think there’s much energy around more “celebration of woke” in 2025.

August is national catfish month though

Yep. The first weekend in August would be great to break up the hot LA stretch from July 4 to Labor Day. I would be a break before returning to school.

I think the Netherlands has 30ish federal holidays.
US is not all that when it comes to protecting life’s time. We tend to trade it for money like our life is long.
It is not.
