Part of the rise has to do with unemployment, part with a better sign-up system. But mostly it’s a combination of Louisiana’s poor economic conditions coupled with a large workforce that earns less, on average, than the rest of the nation

People who are working part time can’t find full-time work, and people who are working at minimum wage tend to be the persons on SNAP,” Donovan said.
Since the 1990s, when welfare was reformed on a federal level, there is little assistance available. “It really is the only program that people can turn to when they find themselves in a situation they didn’t anticipate,” Donovan said.
And the data indicates that those who are receiving food stamps are not lazy, as they are often portrayed. Donovan said the statistics show the average recipient is on the rolls for about nine months.
“That’s about how long it takes for a person to work through their crisis,” she said.
State statistics show that 28.4 percent of the households receiving food stamp benefits in Louisiana have at least one member who is working.
From her office in suburban Baton Rouge, Jean Guinta is in charge of overseeing the food stamp program in the River Parishes and parts of coastal Louisiana, including the hard-hit Lafourche, which saw a 21.7 percent increase in cases over the past year.
Her 32 staffers report that the biggest uptick of the 1,218 more households added during the past year happened when two shipyards laid off workers.

You can show them numbers or statistics and it won't matter. Statistics are racist.

75% of the US population is white.
13% is black.
Go refigure your meaningless statistic.

Nah. You guys who bash minorities are racist. I dont have a problem with anyone getting help. The facts show more white people get help and more black % wise get help. How about this. No one gets help. No student loans, no bailouts, no free education for the troops, no tax credit of any kind. Either you pay for what you want via your own $ or you do without.

Over 70% don't have a working adult
That's how you remain poor.
Welfare should be tied to employment or increasing job skills. frick the deadbeats

What about white people who want to stay home all day and take your tax dollars? Have no intention on working?

Blacks are far more uneducated, poorer and rarely have two parent households. They have the highest rates of not Hs diploma.
Let’s work off the same set of facts and then we can debate racism.

I've known people to brag about paying taxes even though they pretty much get a full refund every year from the IRS.
Ranks right up there with people who say making less money is sometimes better because you stay in a "lower tax bracket".

Not much money goes to food stamps. You have no issue with CEOs/companies getting millions and billions in handouts with paying taxes?

What makes you think that? Welfare, whether individual or corporate encourages bad behavior and are negatives for society.
We're creating permenant underclasses regardless of race
