Not real proud to admit, but I had a family member come up to me to proudly announce that they were now getting EBT (food stamps). I tried to explain that it wasn't something you should really be proud of. Not only did they not understand that but they also tried to tell me that it wasn't the same as food stamps.
wow. i've seen similar brags (with responses) on facebook
it really annoys me to see people brag about having a "medical card" too

I thought everyone paid taxes until my first five figure tax bill hit.
Politically it changed some views of mine.
i mean i've been pretty anti-tax/government for a while but my taxes didn't influence me that much
what pissed me off is seeing all the people on FB brag about their "Tax refund", which is really the EITC, which is really a negative taxation scheme
these people not only don't pay taxes, they get a net positive in taxes via the child and EITC

child and EITC
Both optional, yet we pay people to have kids and be poor.
I get reamed up the arse for not being married and having no kids.

the EITC, child tax credit, and Medicaid bonus are a real kick in the dick for childless taxpayers
and there is such an emotional appeal to each program you get labeled a monster for talking about them
like when these net-negative people bitch about government cuts, and fail to realize that Medicaid is our largest expenditure and over a quarter of our spending
