Is this that dumb shite where they want you to subtract or add to make big round numbers and then put the remainders somewhere

Does 2+2 still equal 4?
Yes, but can also identify as 8, 3, or Q
The liberals told me so

Fixing something (math) that wasn’t broken only to confuse everyone only goes to demonstrate that people are deliberately trying to screw this country up and destroy it from within.
But you know really, they get away with it because we allow them to get away with it. That’s the truth.

I mean, Americans aren't actually great at math comparably. This is evidenced on this board daily with the "only pay cash for cars" crowd. Also why Americans apparently don't have reserves for a $500 emergency.
And to the person who said showing work isn't necessary, I used to think this way. One of my kids was a total "mental math" type of person and loathed having to write it out.
This is now kicking his butt in high school. You can't do Algebra without writing out the process. Plus, teachers don't know how to help you because they can't see exactly where you went wrong.

Americans went to the moon using slide rulers.
We used to do just fine.
Which is his point.

Debt math doesn’t take into account peoples comfort level with being beholden to the lender. Freedom or lack there of has a cost in itself.

My wife is a second grade teacher and my son is a 2nd grader....I have no idea what Singapore math is.
The nation of Singapore has had great success with its math curriculum, which I would argue bridges the "math wars" between sides that have alternately called each other "drill and kill" vs "fuzzy math."
In other words, it's possible to focus too much on conceptual understanding to the point that students don't practice enough problems to solve them fluently. On the other hand, it's possible for math education to focus so much on "doing the steps to get the right answer" that students don't actually understand math and can't apply it.
The success of Singapore's national math curriculum meant that an English version of it was created some 30 years ago, and it's been used by a number of schools since
