Dude it is 58. Look at the calculator at the top of the page. It is typed out exactly the same as the OP. The answer the way the equation is written is only 58

How do you know if the +4 is part of the divisor or not?

It isn't. It isn't inside the parenthesis. Are you really now arguing with a scientific calculator?

No just asking. If the +4 was part of the divisor then it's 3.6 correct?

That is exactly my point people are doing three different problems because there is lack of appropriate formatting. I was just trying to show why there were three different answers.

To be assumed as part of the division the equation would need to be written as
2
-------
3+4

When it is written as 2/2(3)+4 you as a human are making an assumption it is. Do not make assumptions, this is math no philosophy. That is what every calculator in the world will tell you the answer is 58

Thank you. It's a fricked up layout and unclear. It could be 58, 10, or 3.6

Yet the OP put the word "simple" in his title even though it's anything but, lotta "gotcha" attempts in this thread by people who think they're smarter than everybody else

The only answer to the written equation is 58 guys. One has to make further assumptions to turn it into 3.6 or 10

Mathmatically, it's 10. Moronically, you can get all kinds of dumbass answers.

I'm older than computerized math problems but how would you write the problem with 2*3+4 all in the divisor?
