Yeah it's all about an officer's use of his/her discretion. Seems to me a very brief assessment of the situation could have led to best use of discretion insomuch as concluding (1) non-threatening press member; (2) your profession is already getting tagged pretty hard by that same press. Conclusion: utilize discretion to let this one slide and give them extra leeway (given all current circumstances) unless and until there is an imminent and up close issue with the press member obstructing your ability to discharge duties.

If parents did a better job of teaching their children to respect authority 99% of all of these situations could be avoided.
