How many people actually write down where they want their dogs to go and and include the pertinent info such as vets, health history, etc? Think I'm going to write that down and give it to a family member this week.
That is a great idea. I would also include some general statements about how your routine with your pet has been (do you go for walks each night, sleep in the bed, etc.), so perhaps a family member or friend who might take over would help the pet assimilate to a new situation more quickly.

You should have them dispatched to accompany you into the afterlife.

An older gentleman that my dad knew long ago, Mr. McCann passed away when I was a kid. He had a rolly polly fat chocolate lab name Charlie. In Mr McCann's will, he specified that Charlie had to be put down before his will could be executed. Why you ask? Because Mr McCann knew Charlie would go looking for him and probably get killed on the road. Sadly, before the order could be given, that's exactly what happened.
I totally agree with a clause in the will for pet care.

It's not in writing, but my mom will take my dog. Although, I think she'd give it to my boyfriend because he'd be the better caretaker.

Of course it makes sense. You make arrangements for everything else. If your pets have meaning to you, why wouldn't you want to ensure they are cared for when you're gone?
It's because the thread title is poorly worded. Making a will FOR your pets is different than putting your pets IN your own will.
Making a will for your pet would be:
In the event of Spotty's death, his green toy will go to the black dog down the street, his tennis ball will go to the cat, etc..

My dog bequeathed her chew toys to charity just so my other dog wouldn't get them. What can I say...she's a bitch.

I'm going to will you a noisy, aggravating little parakeet just to piss you off
Something that will wake up early whistling and mocking you.

I'll cut it's head off and sell it to a blind kid.
