Some of the comments in here are truly disturbing.
I despise cell phone users in movies, but I don't wish death on anybody as a result of using a cell phone.
Like some of you said though, I would like to know what was said in the argument just prior to the shooting. This shooter could have been wound up so tight that whatever comments the victim said could have caused him to just snap.

For the jokers who didn't check into the story...
40-ish year old dude texting in front of old 70-ish retired cop during the previews (movie was Lone Survivor).
Old guy asks young guy to stop texting. He refuses.
Old guy goes to complain to management, who does not do anything (quickly enough, anyway).
Old guy returns to seat and gets yelled at by young guy for tattling.
Physical altercation ensues. Young guy takes bullet and dies. Wife hit in hand with the same bullet, as she was trying to pull her husband away.
Murder charges won't stick to this one, if the young guy initiated the physical assault.

old guy was just standing his ground.

He could have also just minded his own business during the preview. Or waited for management to do something, or not pulled a gun in the middle of a movie theatre.

In that same line of logic, the younger guy could have stopped texting when he got called out. He also didn't have to attack the old guy on his way back to his seat. If he does either of those, he goes home alive and well.
The young guy didn't get shot for texting. He got shot for attacking an old guy with a gun who didn't feel like getting beat up by a 40 year old.

How do you know he didn't?

Link to him attacking the guy?

And none of that happens if the old guy doesn't start shite over texting during a preview. I could understand a little bit if the movie had actually started, but give me a break.

Or if management won't tell the guy to put the phone away, just get your damned money back and leave.
At no point is shooting the guy an acceptable response to this situation. Christ, I'd say you're a fricking neanderthal if you went to blows over something so trivial.
WTF is wrong with people?

It started over texted but I wonder what made him shoot the guy. Old POS retired COP probably thought he was in charge and dis respected. POS
I hope he gets his arse reamed out in Prison.

He deserved to die over sending his daughter a text during the fricking previews?
Do you seriously think this shooting is over a text?
No you idiots. It's over an altercation that followed the texts.
Remember the ole boy who got shot at the Autozone on Joor & Greenwell springs several years ago? You think he got shot just because he cut into a funeral procession? OOhh but the media and Baton Rouge Black caucus sure made it seem that way.

Just in case you forgot.

Article never said what movie?
The shooting Monday during a 1:20 p.m. showing of "Lone Survivor" at a Wesley Chapel, Florida, movie theater escalated from an objection to cell phone use, to a series of arguments, to the sudden and deadly shooting, according to police and witnesses.

Biased liberal media has tried to fabricate a storyline once again.

Old guy shoots movie texter
Looks like we will have to wait for the details to come out, but IF there was any initiation of physical contact by the texter, the old guy will probably walk. I never said I agreed with the shooting. However, I can see how things could escalate and the younger guy gets killed, because the old guy doesn't want to fist fight. It's just stupid all around. Society has become too inconsiderate of others, and this holds true for both of these idiots.

Yes, because for every physical assault you're allowed to shoot the other person. He needs to show he was in fear for his life for stand your ground to even apply. And I'm pretty sure it's objective, not subjective.

I know....texting (and shining a bright light into the eyes of the people behind him) while they are trying to watch the previews and then getting aggressive when held accountable.

Eye witness accounts will be vital if he applies Stand Your Ground

Right, everyone that texts in a theatre holds the phone up so everyone behind them can see the screen

If you're going to try to make a witty comment, don't forget the wit next time.
