It's a mix of college kids and thugs out there on the weekends. And the guhs are wearing barely anything out there. Like I said, shocked that this hasn't happened sooner or at the most on a weekly basis.

Damn... Im old and haven't been out (to downtown clubs at night) in around 5-8 years. It used to not be like this at all downtown.

I noticed this in the last couple of years. There is a sketchy group of people hanging out downtown after dark that panhandle aggressively.

I got to UL around '11 and things started changing drastically around 2014 ish. From what I heard, Troy Hebert had shut down a few bars/clubs on the Northside that catered to younger black folk and when those closed they started migrating downtown. My first few years in school, downtown was definitely a lot different crowd wise than it has become.

Jefferson Street was insanely ghetto after the festival ended. I've lived in NO and I'm pretty used to that kind of thing, but walking down the street right about that time I just had this feeling something bad was bad was about to happen. We left the area shortly before the shooting.

UPDATE- Mostly true. The original shooter was taken out by the 2 people he shot at first
