Between incidents like this and the advent of widespread recording, does anyone still wonder why no one trusts the police anymore?

Apparently at LSP you just get some time on the beach and get to keep your rank and pay.
Well considering that’s not what happened.
From reading that, he’s suspended 500 hours which equates to about 12 weeks without pay. He can’t take leave or anything to fill the void either, it’s flat out no pay for 12 weeks.
I will say that’s some boulder line ridiculous defense of “I didn’t know” but the key factor the story leaves out is that Edmonson, the previous col told them to go that route.
A few weeks ago all that came out, so I guess it would be like you and your regional manager going on a trip and claiming OT or whatever then big corporate/HR finding out and calling you in. I’m sure I would throw a BS flag if I was in trouble for them telling me I “should have known” when my boss told me to do it, as I’m sure everyone else here would as well.

Edmonson was involved in the trip route part of it but as far as the OT goes. He claimed OT for hours they were bedded down at the hotel and hours that it was proven he was gambling in the casino and sightseeing at the Grand Canyon. He got screwed because the others didn't claim the OT and his time sheet stood out. So there wasn't a lot to fall back on. 500 hours off is a small penalty when he could have been criminally prosecuted. LSP has been abusing OT, as has BRPD, in the news continually as of late and no one seems to get in much trouble relatively speaking.

IIRC Edmonson signed off on several of their timesheets so he knew what hours they logged.
And in reference to your OT comment, didn’t they just arrest three or four of them?
I don’t wanna make t seem like I’m trying to say they shouldn’t have been in trouble or anything, hell i don’t even live in LA anymore, but seems that there are some key factors that the news article left out. I. E. The Edmonson thing. I think generally nowadays the news omits certain things as we’ve all seen to make the article for “extreme” or whatever.
But I do think that the commission took the former Col giving his blessing to these guys in to consideration when they rendered their verdict. Especially given all the stuff that’s come out about Edmonson recently.

The discipline Williams received stemmed from his use of a state cellphone for personal communications. Investigators found that, after checking into a Las Vegas hotel, Williams took a photograph of a bed and sent it to a friend. "Has your name all over it," he wrote. "Look at the bar at the top of the headboard. What do you think that is for?" The same friend sent Williams a photograph of her genitalia a couple of days later in an email with the subject "No panties Sunday." Two days after that exchange, Williams sent the woman an image of himself "seated in the desert with a cactus protruding between (his) legs," according to State Police records. Williams testified that he did not realize he had been using his State Police email account during those exchanges. He said he uses both personal and state email accounts on his cellphone.
Does that open the email up to a FOIA request?
