This format is shite and always produces a big turd.

quote:Yeah I was thinking about putting a few tags on each comic to see if I could fudge them to fall into equal categories, and maybe that could help decide who to drop for replacements.quote:Remember, we want 4 roughly equal sub-brackets
What do you think about chunking them by style, generation, or other categories? Past/present, clean/dirty, rapid-fire/storytellers, etc.
If we go that route, so how would you do that? Unlikely to have 4 good equal categories.
It was just an idea to make sure the finals are diverse. I thought it would be really neat if they would fall into 8 or even 16 combo sub-groups, but I realize that's a stretch unless you choose the contenders with that in mind from the start.

It just would boil down to a generally agreed upon 8 in the end anyway if they were seeded their own pods.
So a field of 64 is really a waste of time if they aren’t random.
I mean, if people want it i have it all saved and can bring it back. It started out as me just thinking of comics I like to listen to and wanting to discover More.
It wouldn’t be worth the effort if everyone hated it though.

I think 7 pages in most of us thought it would at least lead to good discussion

Long story short, I’ll be making a bracket for the Board, where we’ll have a march madness style bracket to decide the best comedian. Every day we’ll have a set number of matches. I’ll include some links to short and Long bits for each contender so if you haven’t heard of them you can get a taste and maybe expand your repertoire. Have a laugh.
. Haven’t decided how to seed them or separate the brackets but happy to hear suggestions, also need suggestions for a good bracket maker with online voting. The one I have now leaves something to be desired.
Anyway, these are who I have so far. Remember, this is stand up comedians, not just funny actors. The list is tentative so we can boot and add who we please until we like the layout,
So, without further adieu

TL;DR:Making top male comedians tourney bracket, post your entries
ETA: we’ve got a full bracket and solid list now. Any bumps will have to be very strong contenders.
ETA2: if the Board likes this one we can have another one with musical comedians, prop comics, ventriloquists, etc. the ones that didn’t make this list for space
ETA3: ETA Hard With A Vengeance
about the prize. What I’ll do, the only fair way I can see, is that the first 64 posters to say they want in will be the contestants. Each will be assigned a random number coinciding with a random comedian. That will be your contender through the tourney,
We’ll have a grand prize and possibly some runner up prizes too. Just a fun little extra
ETA4: this Is the preliminary timeline
32 matchups- 4 per day: 8 days
Sweet 16 matchups-4 per day: 4 days
Elite 8- 2 per day: 4 days
Final 4- 2 per day: 2 days
Championship- 1 day
19 days total
Would it be better to start the 32 at 8 per day? Want to give people the chance to watch the material
Just a preliminary version with random seeding
