Please forgive me. I had a lot to do today and just stayed on the couch drinking and sending out emails but I’m very private.

I have thought about it, and my kids went through catholic school, as did I. I have seen the changes occurring and the religion is a watered down version of what we had, and what our parents had. The changes are being made( slowly) as we are witnessing many catholic schools converting to non religious charter schools. Lots of literature out there about this.

And part of the reason for this is because of the many lawsuits that have either took a lot of money away from diocese or caused them to file bankruptcy.

I am not sure if this has happened around the country, but it seems to have started years ago with smaller church diocese (churches in smaller towns) merging with the church closes to them.

My nephew goes to a Catholic school. The number of students have dropped a good bit over the past several years. This is a school that has been around since.. I think the 1930s.. And some people are saying they wouldn't be surprised if it closes within the next 10 years. I can see why some Catholic schools would convert to non religious charter schools.. It is a matter of survival.

In areas like New Orleans, Catholic schools in which many of the students are from wealthier families are not being affected, because they have the money. It cost more to go there, they get more in donations, etc.

There was a time when the nuns taught at most Catholic schools, many schools have 0 nuns. And in reality, there are areas in which half of the student body of smaller Catholic schools are made up of people who either want to avoid taking the exit exam or people who don't want their kids to be around black kids.

The catholic school I went to banned ankle socks. Any school that would do that wouldn’t even think about allowing hair extensions.

Okay Chris, tell us what catholic schools in Baton Rouge and New Orleans are converting to non religious Charter Schools?

What about this??

quote:

you can’t be both a “private” school and accept government funding.

And this??

quote:

If Christ the King accepts ANY govt funding they are screwed. Lawsuit coming.

That’s all crazy talk

The nuns at my elementary school would’ve physically removed those weaves themselves before calling the mom. Those ladies didn’t play.

Similar rules where I live with public school. Long Beach, MS. Parents and students read the rules every summer and must sign.

So new schools are moving into where old schools used to be?

Happens all the time.

That’s not the same as private and Catholic schools breaking away from the diocese and converting to non religious Charter Schools.

they merged schools and sold out to the charter schools.

Lol no. Each school closed for various different reasons and new schools opened up.

Catholic schools aren’t converting themselves into non religious charters schools as some sort of master conspiracy to do away with religious schools as you are suggesting

So DixieChick still can’t prove her point. She’s been wrong about everything that she’s posted.

quote:

Cristo Rey Baton Rouge Franciscan High School is a Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose and service. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience, students graduate ready to succeed in college and in life.

I guess my “issue” is what is the problem with the hair. Kids are there to learn. Why did the school feel the need to put the policy in place. Yes rules are rules, but who is she bothering that this rule needed to be made in the first place. Open your book and study.

Theres been a few catholic school closures with new charter schools taking over the leftover buildings. Mostly closures due to drop off in enrollment. That isnt the same as parochial schools converting themselves into non-religious schools. Cost of catholic school isnt cheap. For a family with 2-3 kids, catholic elementary school costs as much as most mortgage payments. When quality charter schools that students had to test in for admission became a viable option, a lot of former catholic school parents took advantage to save $5000-6000 tuition (per kid). Resulting in drop off in enrollment at many parochial schools, which forced some to eventually close.
