Scammers,... how much fun do you have with them?

Sample below I received today trying to sell something off Craigslist. Kept texting me, to give them some google code, "my mom is interested in your speakers, first let me know you're real, respond to google text code" so I removed my cell and told them reply via email link from the ad.

Thanks for the great response to my daughters message,I'm OK with the price. i would like you to remove the advert from the list cos i want to make the purchase asap and i don't mind adding extra $50 to delete the ads from the list..
Please let me know if a certified check is OK.? After the payment clears, my shipper will come and pick it up at your location. I would have loved to come and take a look but I can't due to my work frame and my Kids. so I'll need you to provide me with the
following information to facilitate the mailing of the check
Name to be on the payment........
Address to mail the check to..........
Final Asking price...........
Cell phone # to contact you .........

My time is too valuable to waste pranking a scammer. If I were in high school I would probably be more dedicated, but I have to much other stuff I need or want to do to waste time on them.

There’s one scammer who inquires about cars and tries to get the seller to pay for some fake Carfax check before proceeding. Motherfricker tried to trick me when I was selling my old accord.

I have had fun with the phony IRS scammers in the past and played along with them like they had me scared of consequences if I didn't cooperate. Then I decided to pull the plug and only said the word "scam" one time and they hung up and never called again.
I recently got a call with the new "Social Security Scam" that went straight to voicemail since I don't answer calls I that don't come up from my Contact List. I may call and have some fun with them before long.

The "IRS Scam" will start with a person claiming to be from the IRS to let you know you have back taxes that need to be taken care of right away or an arrest warrant will be issued in your area to pick you up ASAP.
These jokers try to get your bank account number, passwords etc. to transfer funds to them. One of my wife's older lady friends fell for this crap but fortunately she called us in a panic and I told her it was a scam and to call her bank immediately and shut things down until she could get in and reopen her accounts. She felt like an idiot for falling for that crap, and rightfully so.
The latest scam is the Social Security Scam, but it falls in the parameters of the IRS scam as far as how the callers make threats if you don't cooperate.

None. To answer a text from one or answer the call from one is to encourage them to continue contacting you.

What I don't get is that I get those robo calls and when I do answer it, they immediately hang up. Like what is the point of that shite? That has to be some type of scam too.

If I am on a long drive I play along and waste their time. I salt the mine with comments like “ I’m glad you called because my I was getting ready to do payroll and all of my banking information is on there “. Or “ I was getting ready to transfer some money I inherited. After you fix my computer could you help me with that.? “. Then I put them on hold. When they want me to find the Windows key on my keyboard I ask loudly “ you can see my keys through my window? Where are you ? Just general frick with them.

quote:I've heard of scams with checks before where they over pay you for an item, and tell you to just cash the check and send back the difference. So you actually are able to cash the check at the bank, but after a few days the check is found to be bad and they take the funds out of your account. Or something to that nature.
I'm not sure i get the scam in the OP.
