San Ramon police release 911 video of caller mistaking kid for armed gunman

A lady calls 911 because she sees a man with "a black assault rifle" dressed in all black wearing a black helmet walking around in her street. the day before there was an armed carjacking in the area.

the lady called 911 freaking out and officers responded. Turns out it was a a group of 12-14 year old kids playing with air soft rifles that looked identical to ARs.

The video was released by San Ramon in an effort to have parents educate their kids about air soft guns and to make sure they dont look like really guns because cops generally cant tell the difference in just a few seconds which could lead to a tragic accident





my original post:

i handled an armed robbery where there were two guns involved

one was an air soft pistol and one was an actual handgun, both black


the airsoft gun was all metal whereas the handgun had a synthetic material and metal


the airsoft actually looked and felt more like a real gun than the real handgun

there needs to be laws in place to insure that these things are colored to look like toys

i know there will always be some confusion, but alot of these things look way too realistic
