Its all personal preference and somewhat of a trade off.
I'd rather have the micro SD card slot and easy/ quick battery change that the plastic back construction on the Samsung phones allow. None of the aluminum phones offer that

With regards to the back, it is ugly i agree. But if you slap a case on it. You can't tell the back has those dam dimples. I saw one review where one guy was reviewing the phone and it had a thin red case on the back of the review model. And when you turned it over, it looked really nice. Couldn't even tell it had that ugly back on it. Of course i know some ppl may not like to slap a case on their phone.

I just found a site with decent Galaxy S5 Wallpapers. Not bad, same resolution as the S4 (1080x1920). Also 1080p so I aint even complaining.

On the flipside if I did buy the S5 I could buy these sweet new shorts to fit it in.

After the experience I had with the Captivate, the s2, then the s3 before wising up and switching to the 4s which is still going like new 2 years later..i'll never buy another android amd especially not another samsung phone.

My s3 is still going strong. Girlfriend went through 2 4s before getting an s4. I will never buy another apple phone.

Anecdotes are neat.
I've been using Samsung phones since the S2. Never had a single issue with it. Android is an awesome mobile operating system. I'm computer literate.
Not much you can screw up if you're computer literate.
