There are obviously double standards in the media concerning race relations.

Don't even get me started on Farrakhan.

quote:

“You see everybody always talk about Hitler exterminating six million Jews. That’s right. But don’t nobody ever ask what did they do to Hitler.”

Imagine the outrage if a white senator said this.

Seriously ?

I wasn't kidding. That's absurd. Stop putting thoughts and motives in my mind. I don't think those things when I say black people are better athletes. I am thinking, "Black people sure seem to be more athletically gifted".

I am not racist. Stop trying to make me racist.

Where's the outrage??

quote:

Haley Barbour called President Barack Obama’s policies “tar babies” on a post-election conference call for clients of his lobbying firm, two sources familiar with the call told POLITICO.
The former Mississippi governor made the remark as he was taking questions from 100 or more clients of the BGR Group during an hourlong call on Thursday morning. According to a person on the call, Barbour was noting how rare it is for Americans to elect a president from the same party as a commander-in-chief leaving office after two terms.
Story Continued Below
“And then he said there is no one who will run for president who will endorse Obama’s issues, because Obama’s issues are ‘tar babies.’”

quote:

When Barbour was considering his own potential 2012 presidential campaign, he came under scrutiny for kind words about the Citizens Councils in his home town of Yazoo during the civil rights era.
“Up north they think it was like the KKK,” he told the Weekly Standard in a profile of him. “Where I come from it was an organization of town leaders. In Yazoo City they passed a resolution that said anybody who started a chapter of the Klan would get their arse run out of town. If you had a job, you’d lose it. If you had a store, they’d see nobody shopped there. We didn’t have a problem with the Klan in Yazoo City.”
Barbour also said he didn’t “remember it as being that bad” and recalled going to see Martin Luther King Jr. speak in 1962.

Barbour was not a senator, brah. He was governor of Mississippi, and a good one at that.

Barbour was an SAE and is Ole Miss chapter's big mentor/supporter.

Just to tie things together for this thread

You want to be the best organization with the most sought after pledges. You want that senator's son, or the kid from the prestigious high school. Letting in a minority makes it look like you are easy to get in to, etc.. It's still racist, but it's more classist than purely racist.
A son of a wealthy black senator who is accomplished, has a high GPA, is active within the university and is generally a cool guy will still never receive a bid from certain fraternities at southern state schools. It's just a fact.

FIFY

SAE is a very powerful organization, especially in the state of Alabama. The Machine runs shite there, including Alabama's congressional delegation and in Montgomery.

EASILY would at Ole Miss. Which by all accounts, is as "Southern State University" as you can get.

There are examples of such happening.

ETA:

My year, Sigma Chi, which is a very selective and popular fraternity and very big in the South, had a black pledge who was extremely popular and went on to their leadership I believe.

When I was in Oxford from 2008 - 2013, a few Ole Miss fraternities, including some in the top tier, would have extended bids in such a situation. Sigma Chi had a black dude, and they are, by all accounts, a top tier fraternity at Ole Miss.

Now, I think there are more black members scattered around the greek system.

I was 2006-2011. (lol 5 years)

Bobby was his name and he was the shite. I was a Sigma Nu and we gave him and other black guys bids in my time there. And we were a big fraternity.
