BBC Article about it

quote:

The body of a pilot has been recovered after a US Air Force fighter jet crashed into the North Sea.
The F-15C Eagle, from the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, crashed shortly after 09:30 BST while on a training mission.

I love watching these guys fly over my house almost daily and know a few of the guys that are / have been based at RAF Lakenheath. Sad day for the USAF. RIP Airman. Blue Skies.

Got the alert on that this morning. Still no official word on how or why.

Awful news-Canada just had a helicopter crew killed during NATO exercises off the coast of Greece. Tough news.

yeah, there were some patches of low cloud/mist/fog out there this morning, but nothing out of the norm for this time of year really.

This man does a good job covering plane crashes. Nothing up now, but probably have something up later today or tomorrow.

Always hate to hear stuff like this. With the weather in the UK changing hourly it's a possibility it may have been a factor. Being a C-model out over the North Sea might have had a scenario involving Air Defense, ACM where weather and SA(Situational Awareness) go hand in hand.

We lost three birds (six pilots/WSO's) during my times there in the late 80's. Always sad and heartbreaking for the group and the families.

Not much of a condolence but it being an F-15C means there was only one in the cockpit vs two in most of Lakenheath's birds.

RIP 493rd (yellow-tail) pilot
