S Texas oil boom

So, my nephew got the hook up for an interview and it looks like he has the gig working for some automation controls company out of Laffy south of San Antonio. Any words of wisdom from the OT. I worked in the oilfield offshore 30 yrs ago and much has changed. My advice was to keep your mouth shut and don't talk any shite. What says the OT.

Best advice and can be applied to life is , be respectable to your coworkers and always display a good attitude. You will meet people you won't like and they are alway people that want to frick with the new guy but as long as you have a good attitude and do what your told, he will be fine.

Don't take thing so seriously..he will be messed with. If you take it well immediately, worst case is that you won't be hated. Best case is that you'll be accepted.

I don't know what's worse, S Texas or North Dakota. Why do all these oil/gas booms happen in the shittiest places? 
We have a yard there and I feel bad for the poor manager that drew the short straw and had to go down there.

I would rather take up permanent residence in South Texes than spend another two weeks in the Williston ND area. Absolute shite hole there.
But really OP, tell him to have some tough skin, take the jokes in stride and he'll do fine.
Hard Work and thick skin will help him more than most other things will.

I don't think much has changed at all...particularly on the drilling rigs....
you are working long hours under harsh conditions and in order to deal with that shite, a lot of horsing and kidding around happens...everone who works in the oilfield will be fricked with, so my advice is to grow some thick skin and laugh it off....eventually his day will come...
main thing is to be damn careful, as you have to watch out for yourself as well as everyone else to keep from getting hurt...
my final piece of advice is to go ahead and ditch any girlfriend or wife now...that way you won't be cheated on...

There's tons of oil in Los Angeles, but they won't let you drill for it. It's probably for the best that oil booms are in shitty places.
