A Russian river located by the Arctic town of Norilsk turned bright red Tuesday, looking more like an enormous blood vessel than a body of water.
quote:
Authorities are trying to determine why the river changed colors and are evaluating possible environmental damages. The water may have reddened due to discharge from "an unidentified chemical" from the nearby Nadezhda Metallurgical Plant, Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said in a statement Wednesday. If a pipeline broke, contaminants could have leaked into the river, the ministry added.

With Russia, I'll go ahead and assume that this was the blood of dissidents.

At 1st I thought you meant the Russian River in California that borders Bohemian Grove.
Figured it was blood from baby sacrifices.

For as much as Putin loves animals, I'm always surprised by how little he seems to care about the environment over there.

Change thread title to "A River In Russia Turns Bright Red".
The Russian River is a waterway in California an hour north of SF that flows through vineyards and redwoods on its way to the Pacific. The thread title you have made me worried that someone had ruined a little slice of heaven.
