Motivations and beliefs are different. But the fact they actively sought death and thought their god would reward them for that death are very similar. We did not defeat the Japanese by killing tons of them. We defeated them by convincing the one's we didn't kill that if they kept fighting the end result would not just be their death, but the death of their entire country, their whole way of life.

Since the dawn of civilization the way to win a war has never changed. To win you've got to break your opponent's will to continue fighting. And the only way to break the will of a foe who wants to die, is to make them see that not only will they die, their entire way of life and everything they love will likewise die if they don't give up.


ETA: if you think you've got a better way of defeating and stopping radical Islam, instead of just downvoting this post, spell out your ideas.

I think he's suggesting that we find moderates to turn the tide from within the religion. The only problem is that the moderates are terrified of getting their heads lopped off like the rest of the normal world, so that's likely a losing battle as well.

Islam is a violent religion. Always has, always will be, and coddling moderates to influence the majority is an exercise in futility.

I've seen multiple people post on this board that their "moderate" Muslims friends eventually concede that violence in the name of Allah is justified in many, many different types of situations (honor killings, drawing Muhammad, slandering Islam, etc)

Is this where you pretend to understand the intricate concepts of international conflict and diplomacy?
