I worry about a lot of things in the world.
Our navy is not one of them.
In a general war with the Russians, the naval aspect of it would be over in a week at most. And I assure you 80 percent of our navy would still be controlling the oceans.
Zero percent of the Russian navy would be around to contest it.
The next big war will be fought and won in days and weeks, not months and years.

I am far more educated on this topic than 99% of the posters on this board. Sure, there were women nurses in the Civil War, just as there were women performing support roles in WWII, but there have never been women in the U.S. infantry, never.
Go home, put a 100 lbs. ruck sack on your wife, give her an M-16 with a few hundred rounds of ammo, along with water, an entrenching tool, etc., on her web gear, and see if she can march 12 miles in under 3 hours.
Next, see if she can sling you over her shoulder and carry you a few hundred yards, as a man would be expected to do when carrying a wounded comrade.
There is probably 1 woman in 1000 that can do these things, and that my friends is why they don't belong in combat. One does not change policy for 1 woman in a thousand. You establish laws and policies for the middle of the bell curve, not the edges.

An excellent question indeed. I doubt we could ever produce the vast amounts of war matériel that we did in the 1940's, but given the advance in technology, I doubt we would need to in order to cause an equal amount of death and destruction.
And of course, if we ever were ever about to lose a conventional war, we always have the nuclear option to fall back on, just as the Russian do, which is why going to war with them would be foolish on an epic/end of civilization scale.

It always amuses me how people denigrate our military while worshiping the rest of the worlds. Throughout the cold war the Russian bear was going to sweep us away...only most of their shite didn't work for shite. Then the world's 3rd largest army was going wreck havok on the untested American army in Kuwait and on and on and on.
We spend more then the next 12 nations combined on shite to kill people and break things. I have zero doubt that there is not a single nation in the world that can stand up to us.

But whatever...since no one is stupid enough to challenge us directly no one will ever actually find out.
At this point the Russian armed forces (who are struggling with fricking Ukraine) would have problems rolling into and over Poland, nevermind germany. The Russians are no longer a world power, all the games Putin is currently playing are him wishing for the day back when the bear was something to be concerned with.

you know who else is not worried about our navy? Russia. If it came to war tomorrow we could control the Atlantic and Pacific both. Meanwhile Russian tanks are rolling across Poland. And by the time we could muster enough force to pose a serious threat to their advance, they'd be pissing in the Rhine. A war in Europe would be a Continental affair with conventional land formations and land based aircraft carrying the lion's share of the fight. The best use of the navy in such a war would be to keep the Atlantic open to bring over supplies and forces from the US. The problem is we don't have enough in Europe right now to hold the Russian's back long enough for a modern day "REFORGER" to be of any use.

The US still has and will retain a superior fighting force compared to Russia.
I am not concerned with new Russian combat arms as we already have superior countermeasures that I described.
We should not wet our pants when the Russians and Chinese improve their inventories because every nation (including us) works to improve their stock
My only concern would be US production levels being unable to keep up in a long a protracted war.

I graduated from LSU in 2008. But I did not enroll until later in life.

Go back a few pages and you'll see where I laid out how much stronger Russia is than Poland today. As for Germany, they've only got two armored divisions left. And between the both of them, they've only got a total of three actual armored brigade under command. That's right, the whole German Army of today only has a whopping total of THREE armored brigades. And of that three, one is a ceremonial unit so you might as well say they've got TWO operational armored brigades. As for infantry, Germany only has 2 mechanized infantry brigades, one mountain infantry brigade, and two airborne brigades. The whole German army today is barely over 60,000 troops total and the vast majority of those are not even combat troops. If anything, as bad off as Poland would be facing Russia, Germany is even less prepared for war than the Poles.
