Root Canal Procedure-are they always painful?

I’m getting one done in January.
Somehow I managed to split a tooth and I didn’t want to pull it.
I’m going to the same one my dentist uses. He said that there should be no pain whatsoever during the procedure and that I’ll fall asleep while it’s being done.
I don’t want a hole there and sure as hell don’t want an implant.

Had one earlier in the year and it wasn't bad at all. The shots to numb it sting a little but that's the worst part.

The procedure itself did not hurt once I was numb. The shots did suck a bit though. It wasn't just 1 or 2... it was like 8. And somehow I caught sight of the big arse silver syringe and almost passed out. That aside, the only other shitty thing is spending over an hour in a dentist chair. They're not designed for comfort at all.

You should be able to keep the tooth for a long while after.
Doubt you know it happened or it may hurt a bit after, but it ain’t gonna kill ya

Had one earlier in the Fall.
Was not painful at all. The Endodontist had me in the chair for right around an hour.

You will not be sleeping while a dude us hovering 3 inches above your face drilling into an appendage of your skull.
The sound of the drill grading away
The smell of the burning
The water rinsing out your mouth
The little flakes of bone dust gathering on the guy's mask inches from your eyes
No sleeping

Pay the extra for the gas and wear airpods while listening to "Dark Side of the Moon." Afterwards do everything you can to protect that temporary crown, if that comes off then you're in for a world of hurt.

Take the gas is they offer it. I think it was like $60 out of pocket but takes the edge off, especially if you are nervous.

People on this board have some jacked up teeth. Always talking about root canals.

Shouldn’t have any pain during and maybe some gum tenderness afterward but that’s it.
I’ve had a couple and the relief from the pain that sent me there is almost always 100 times better.

I'm sure the ot knows more than your dentist.

I had one a few years ago that wasn't bad at all. The dentist numbs the tooth before fixing it. You will be given meds for pain afterwards but I didn't need them.

It won't hurt, but the sensation of a jagged spot in your chewing area can be rather annoying. If it does come off, use a dab of Fix-o-Dent under the temp cap and stick it back on.
Oh, and gum or any other sticky candy are just looking for an excuse to pull that temp off.

I grew up going to a dentist that did not know what novacaine was. If you had a cavity he would just drill until you couldn't take it and had to take a break. Todays dentists hold no fear for me.

There are still a lot of other nerves that will be exposed if the crown comes off

Give me enough gas and I'll fall into a heavenly nap to the soothing sounds of the drill.

Shots don’t bother me normally but they gave me one in the roof of my mouth and that brought tears to my eyes.

No, they aren’t
The needle sucks arse, though.
