Depends on where you were for that hail storm, it was nasty up in Collin County.

I had my roof done about 2 years ago from a storm that was 3 years ago. I waited until the roofer swarm died down, researched roofers and then went with the roofer that would give me some extra benefits. I ended up getting a new fence thrown in.

Roofers make good money from insurance, our total was over $20,000 for replacement.

I have a fixed deductible of $2000.

If you get a new roof go with the class IV hail resistant roof. It may cost you some out of pocket potentially, however it should drop your insurance cost. Our home insurance went down $500 a year, which has already paid for the upgrade and soon will pay for the deductible.

Your premiums will go up if you claim your roof, no?

They will not increase your premiums for a new roof. They may market adjust all insured in the area at some point though.

Class IV roof will reduce your premiums.

Not sure about TX, but in LA they can't raise the premium on an individual policyholder due to weather related claims.

Illegal in Texas. This is why you shoot for extra work or materials upgrades instead.

I live in Texas and I had my roof replaced a couple of years ago after a hail storm, didn't shell out a penny, my daughter had her roof replaced last summer, in TX, no money out of pocket

That does not make it legal though

Many roofers will fudge the numbers and make it work for you, but lawfully speaking you should have to pay. This is assuming you have a deductible though.

Full disclaimer, I go over the speed limit many times a week.

the entire deal was done between the roofing estimator and the insurance adjustor, all I did was authorize payment to the contractor, just about everyone in my neighborhood had the same experience, don't know what would be illegal about it, and I don't think the practice would be as wide spread and overt if it were

Had a friend in sales doing this in Dallas 3 years ago. Claimed to make good money. They know how to bill the insurance companies where you get a free roof and they make money.

Nothing. Just people don't direct door to door marketing.
My personal least favorite form of marketing, but it's still a thing.

OK, still not the law

no one is waiving any deductible, the roofer is adjusting his price to what the insurance company will pay, the deductible is included in the net check that the insurance company cuts, had the same experience in FL, and believe me, that is a state of way too many rules, they monitor the hell out of the roofing industry after storms down there

I am not saying you cannot get it free of charge, however that is going down a slippery slope.

You are required to pay your deductible, period. If you do not pay it, your paperwork better being solid on how you got away without paying it (ex. discount). If not it could be labeled as fraud and you will not enjoy that.

There is a lot of scammers in the roofing world and I would not preach to people that you can get a free roof. There is the proper way to go about it, however that path is bendable.

To any TD people going for a free roof, just be cautions and careful.

There is high competition and money for roofers. You can make your bucks go far if you are not trying to get a free roof.
