Wouldn't putting up statues of leaders of a band of folks who fought to keep a state's rights to allow slaves, and then the time and money to defend it from being brought down more apropo of "rock solid proof the world is completely fricked up"?

Actually, the world has been doing it for thousands of years, so I suppose it is the norm.

You can disagree with them being put up, sure, but that was a completely different world and something like a century ago. And, as seen in many US military bases being named after confederates (who were all pardoned and reinstated into the US military, and many went on to fight for their country in future conflicts) it was a gesture to reunite the country.


My point is, they are up, they are art, and they aren’t causing any actual problems…so why on earth waste resources to take them down, leaving blight behind, when there are tangible problems to solve.


It’s like your house flooding and being on fire and there are hornets everywhere but you are worried about taking down a picture your great grandfather mounted on the wall.
