The Weight is a deathbed playlist song for me. This is a bummer.
I stumbled across this a few months ago and really enjoy watching it:
The Weight - Emmylou Harris, Old Crow Medicine Show, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle and more
Jimmie Dale Gilmore is one of the "more". What a great group of musicians having a lot of fun. Emmylou Harris in 2021, what an amazing career she's had.

I have that one saved! I'm usually not a big fan of live collaborations, but that is one I do really like.

That’s awesome. I had Levon high on the list of names I wanted, but the wife nixed it.
Thanks. He's a good Levon. Very sweet natured kid. Just started watching drumming videos the other day and I thought maybe he will take after his namesake one day.

You know what I mean. It suits him.

Who would have thought a Canadian would pen the best Civil War song I can think of?
Cool story on how he wrote it. He had visited Levon Helm's childhood home in Arkansas and met his parents, and Levon's dad was the inspiration for the song.

Only Garth is still with us
Ironically, the oldest guy in the band too

He was a dick to the rest the band… but still a hell of a talent.
this, he was quite the dick, but that group had some fricking talent
He was a "dick" because he was a consummate professional and had moved on from the degeneracy stage of rock stardom, had a family, etc. The rest of the band were still living the rockstar life and they just didn't jive at that point.

It was basically Robbie, three degenerates and Garth by the time of LW.
The other guys were pretty butt hurt but even in later years never took responsibility for their actions that got them into the mess.
I love Levon as an artist but guy was never the saint some hold him up to be.

But they blew up the chicken man.

meh, depends on whose viewpoint you want to take, Helm said the same thing earlier, Robertson was a dick throughout that whole presentation, start to finish

Damn, love The Band. RIP

That's the reason LW was made in the first place -- as a glorified screen test for RR.
The others only wanted to take a hiatus, but RR insisted LW be billed as "the last Band show ever", in order to maximize publicity (for himself)
Levon & the others were hardly saints, but don't swallow the RR propaganda

it just hit me that 8/9 is also the day Jerry Garcia passed away.
