Get hollow points. That will solve any worry over over penetration.

Let me help my baw out.
For the shotguns don't need to be aimed crowd.

The problem with anyone looking for a firearm for defense is the crazy amount of myths and misconceptions to get passed and there are some doozies in these last 3 pages.

If Beretta could have nail the PX4 carbine I think it would have made a heck of a home defense weapon. Especially in 45 acp.

As for the OP, I own a 5 inch Ruger GP100 and love it. However it's way down the list on weapons I would grab if someone broke in. Personally I prefer an AR,semi-auto pistol or shotgun. In that order.

I remember being chastised for recommending a scatter shot shotgun as an option a few years ago.

Any crank addict is coming at you whether you are shooting a 45 or a slug. Might as well be ready to make some noise if it is just an honest criminal.

I don't understand the logic of a revolver for home defense. So many better options. If you are going with a handgun for home defense there is really no reason not to have a full size automatic with a larger caliber and capacity than a .38 revolver.

As has been stated, shotguns are great for these purposes as well. I was going to use a pistol caliber carbine instead of a pistol but since I live in an apartment complex I'm sticking with the pistol. The high velocity of the PCC worries me with neighbors in close quarters.

If the guy shooting at you is a better aim and fires first, you kinda lose that bet.

Because shooting what you are comfortable with trumps the advise of armchair self-defence experts.

Yet another piece of consensus advise that has been debunked numerous times. I bet you think pumping the action on a shotgun is a good way to scare off intruders too.

If you are so concerned with over-penetration then you'd have an AR-15 loaded with M193. Research, you need to do some.

You think you are sneaking up on an intruder?

You ain't Jason Bourne

He knows it's not a good idea to let intruders know where you are by making noise. Not a difficult concept

No, get a Smith Wesson Governor.

Better made than any Judge, 6 shots versus 5, and 3 calibers versus 2.

Go first class in life.

What's the difference? We aren't talking about 10k sq ft estates being overrun by sophisticated thieves.

Ya'll watch too much Panic Room type movies.

fricker break in your house at 2am I bet they aren't creeping on the kitchen like you are making a bundt cake.

The fact that you had to ask this question shows you don't know what you're talking about. But, it obviously won't stop you from opining

How many home intruders have you faced down at this point?

Only one on this board I know of wouldn't have made a difference if he was holding a M16 or Red Rider.

Wife did well with the Taurus 85UL. I liked it as well. If I were looking to shell out more money, I would've gone with a Ruger SP 101 3" shooting .38 hollow points for home defense.

Had a Ruger .38 and god damn was that thing loud. Couldn't hit shite from 20' away, but it had a fire ball that you couldn't tell anyway.

Hated shooting that thing. Like a firecracker going off in your hand.
