Still, there is no evidence experienced workers are sitting on the sidelines - U.S. transportation and warehousing are employing more people now then they did before the pandemic started, data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics show.

Teamsters want more truckers in the union. The port has limited who can move equipment and California will not register trucks over 10 years old.

California is fricking with the supply chain across the country. Government caused the problem and I have a feeling the government is going to frick it up worse.

Exactly. The issue with Supply Chain, is that's great that you plan to run a terminal 24/7, but when trucks are showing up to load at 10 and don't get out until 3pm they are going to be less inclined to come back. The problem is the bureaucracy that has been long existing at ports and the inefficiency in which they are operated. The response by Biden is literally nothing more than trying to put some fricking bubble gum on a crack in the hoover dam.

My son has been a long haul truck drive for 10 years. His current employer pays him 56 cents a mile for his 11 hour shift. They refuse to haul containers from ports as it is more profitable for them to haul dry goods only in a typical trailer. Most of their reasoning is due to keeping employee turnover to a minimum and keeping their equipment inventory working at peak efficiency.

No driver wants to sit in their truck for hours at a time waiting for their load while not getting paid. They only get 11 hours per day to drive. While the wait may not be part of the 11 hours, it makes the driver more tired when he does get his load and more prone to accidents from driving tired.

There are some of you who claim it would be easy to get more employees to drive due to all those looking for a job. I invite you to go to one of the many hiring events and try it yourself. Remember you will be away from home for 3 to 4 weeks at a time. You will live and sleep in an area about the size of your bathroom. You try your best to find a truck stop with showers at least every other day. Once a month you might find one with laundry facilities.
