Most higher end restaurants (in our area at least) charge a fee for sharing plates unless it’s a tapas situation.
Gotcha. I guess 3 bucks isn't that big of a deal, so I recant my feelings on that a bit. I don't believe My gf and I have eaten at a "high end" restaurant since we started dating

Are you also perturbed by restaurants that won’t let adults order off the children’s menu?
100%, if I want a small portion, why does it fricking matter?

then don’t ask for a clean plate and the restaurant won’t know
oh the gall to ask for an extra little plate

I think that its dumb, but its not something that bothers me.

Went and had Mexican a few weeks ago and two little shits were jumping booth to booth raising hell the entire time. Momma and I guess Maw Maw did not give a single frick and kept hammering margaritas.

If you go to a Mexican joint and expect peace and quiet, that's on you

It's my understanding it's to prevent people from putting in a reservation for multiple people, who then end up sharing plates and not ordering drinks which can cut into the restaurant's overhead. And more often than not, not tipping much either.
$3 is cheap to split. I just looked to see what the place we're going to tomorrow charges (it's a special occasion dinner) and they charge $10 to split.

They better be adding more food to the plates

Just take the extra home in a box and eat it for lunch the next day.

Before Covid it was a pretty classy joint considering

I see. Apologies for being crass.

To be fair, restaurants with TVs on showing sports likely don’t care about the customer’s etiquette. I’m assuming the restaurant in OP is a higher end restaurant not a sports bar and grill
It's a Cracker Barrell with $20-$30 dishes. It's on Outback's level.
A lot of the pics online show a shite ton of old people which would explain things.
And this pic makes sense with that one mom saying her kids were down by the river.

If the argument is you can't eat a whole entree in one setting, so that's why you split the plate you can just buy the entree at it's regular side and take what you don't eat home for leftovers.

I was thinking more causal tex mex place. But There are certainly Mexican places I wouldn't expect that kind of behavior at as well.

The frick does this have to do with splitting an entree?
$10 to split an entree is ridiculous. I can't think of a single place that's ever charged me for splitting an entree with my wife. And that includes higher end places in NOLA.

I also very rarely eat more than half of what this morbidly obese country considers a "full portion."

Neat, that has frick all to do with the validity of charging $10 to share an entree. So in your world, I either should pay $10 extra or two people need to order more food than either of them want?
