From the current reports I’m going to assume that someone let off a firecracker and the crowd panicked.

I was parked in front of the food court. When was leaving, one of the surliest, most pissed off looking dudes I've ever seen was walking past me, toward the entrance. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but who knows? I look forward to seeing the mug shot.

UPDATE: Lafayette Police confirm that one person is at a local hospital after being shot at Acadiana Mall today.
This is a developing story, we’ll update as soon as we can.
We’ve spoken to someone who was working at the Food Court when the incident happened.
Cullen Mury, 17, was helping a customer when he heard a noise.
“I just got down, and I ran to the back of the store,” said Mury, who is a senior in high school.
Mury said he and his co-workers are safe, and don’t see anything now except police walking around the empty mall.
“The mall is pretty empty, we can see one police officer down the main hall,” he said.
Seeing the mall empty is bizarre on a Christmas Eve, he said.
“It’s just so empty,” he said. “Just some police officers walking around, and the workers trying to get out.”
Mury said he was “98 percent sure” the noise was a gun going off.
“Then we saw a bunch of people yelling and running toward the exits,” he said. “It was very scary. You think that these kind of things won’t happen to you, but you hear stories about massing shootings, school shootings. It just goes to show you should always be prepared, and tell everyone you love them. Because you never know.”
