It’s so sad that so many died so young, They never had a chance to have kids or live to be old. We should always be grateful for those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country, our freedom and our way of life. A good read is The Bedford Boys by Alex Kershaw. Most of those boys didn’t even take a step off the landing craft before they were killed.

They are heroes for making the ultimate sacrifice. Absolutely maddening it happened in a war that we arguably never should have been in and inarguably that our government would not allow us to win. Had the U.S. military been allowed to do their thing, we would have mopped the floor with the NVA.

let's don't dilute/spoil this occasion by politicizing or Monday morning quarterbacking, those young men believed in what they were doing at the time and so did the rest of the nation, I am friends with many Vietnam vets and don't. know of any that say they have regrets about serving or wouldn't do it again if called

Is it still "the ultimate sacrifice" though if you didn't die for your country, but instead died for the likes of Halliburton, GE, Northrop Grumman and every other publicly traded defense contractor in America?
Do you think American service men and women fully understand their primary purpose is to be contracted out by the United States Government to fight corporate wars that are never intended to be won? And furthermore, when they die or end up crippled, do you think they realize my investment accounts improve?
Last question. Is anyone giving them fair warning before they enlist?

So on the subject of enlisting. Do you think kids are getting fair warning on who and what they're fighting for? Because it's not their country.

We did. We killed 1.3M NVA/VC.

No one has fought for our freedom or country since 1941. Listen to Eisenhower's speech before he left office. He even told you.

Met the man. Along with Carwood Lipton and Walter Gordon. They all signed my book and I treasure that thing. Winters signed it “hang tough” his catch phrase. It was so cool but it was long before the days of cell phones so I didn’t get a picture. Gordon lived in Bay St. Louis at the time and rolled up in a 20 foot long Oldsmobuick. He was hilarious.

Actually it could’ve been avoided if Woodrow Wilson listen to Ho Chi Minh’s plead for not wanting to be colonized by the French and Vietnam independence.
Vietnam had a long history of fighting invaders(Chinese, Japanese, French). They were willing to do anything to be independent and do their own thing. And look at them now. Vietnam has the fastest growing economy from now to 2050 (and a US trading partner).

One of the more ironic things is they have a much better relationship with the US than with China. Not that that’s unique because most of China’s neighbors dislike and don’t trust them but still

Yes and no... was more about not letting (wanting) China or Russia to get a foothold in the country

Tomorrow is a day of honor and reverence for those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, regardless of one’s political affiliation or views of any particular war.
To my fellow Nam Marines and all that followed, especially the younger ones who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, and our brothers-in-arms in the other service branches, I’m glad you’re home.
To my cousin Timmy who did not, I remember you every week.
Semper Fi to you all, gentlemen.
