Regular tires or all-terrain tires for shitey inner-city roads?

My car (Tahoe) has taken a beating ever since I bought it a few years ago. It has (chevy brand) 22 inch wheels that came with it, and because of that, the tires are thinner which makes the ride around the city a little extra rough. I've considered getting all-terrain tires for when I need to replace my current ones. Has anyone here done or considered doing this and what is your advice? Also, how much does it affect the ease of driving?

I agree. Low profile tires on an SUV doesn’t make much sense. Why even get an SUV if you are going to take all of its “off road” abilities away with big rims and skinny tires?

I was about to post a smartass remark about saving up and moving but yes Inner Loop Houston roads are shite. Just need to stay away from low-profile tires.

if most of your driving is done on freeway then get highway tires
if you drive on rock, gravel, or occasionally dirt roads go with all season mud and snow tires

The wheels look really good while also not coming off as flashy, which is why I like them and will keep them. I just want a practical solution to the problem without spending a ton of money to replace everything.

You could sell those for the same price as the ones I posted. Then it's just getting better tires with some sidewall

I have a LOT of experience with this stuff. Don't get all terrain tires either. They are stiffer and will cause a rougher ride.
Lower the tire pressure as much as possible. I am at 26 lbs. cold. I put a small piece of tape over the tire pressure warning light.

I was just about to post this. A lot of all terrain tires are going to be higher ply with means more thickness and more firm ride which would only make your problem worse. You need to stick with street tires and don’t keep them aired up too much. Your best bet would be some sort of suspension upgrade if you’re not going to go with smaller wheels.

Higher the ply less punctures. I have some of these right now and they ride decent for the road and have a little tread. Goodyear silent armor. Kevlar sidewalls
