I've been working on my own vehicles for over 50 years. I currently have a Isuzu Trooper that I've put over 300,000 miles on. I have never done a brake flush on anything. It's not needed.

It’s $170 dollars man. You trying to save 30-40 bucks or what?

I found a local place that will do it for less than $50.

So, potentially, I will save $120 by not accepting the dealership's quoted price.

To me, that is worth shopping or asking around.

Ive replaced jacked calipers, master cylinders, and brake lines over the last 35 years of working on cars. Including at some very unfortunate times on trail rides. Seen them leak and corrode and just plain fail. If you only want to change it when only absolutely necessary, you can buy a cheap tool that will tell you the moisture content/condition.

If you're towing or in heavy hill country the last thing you want is boiling brake fluid. Also, the corrosion suspended in the fluid can and will clog your lines. Saying its not necessary is both disingenuos and potentially dangerous.

Congrats on your Isuzu, my Jeep is only 27 years old and Ive probably changed the brake fluid 8 times. My cars with ABS, I just play it safe and follow what the engineer suggested for the system.

I mean, brake fluid is 8 bucks for 32 oz. Thats plenty to flush your old corroded and soaked fluid. It really doesnt take long, either.
