Or in other words: what's around me. It's all my zip code.
I'm sure all your stuff is literally 5 minutes or less walking.
It’s less than 5 minutes. I’m literally staring at the woods right now from my window, beyond them is the river My neighborhood has a a golf course.
There is no need for me to exaggerate because the whole point is that is what is immediately around my house without having to do any sort of social distancing. It’s not perfect but at this very moment, I appreciate the space that I have.

Cool, I'm not exaggerating either. I never once acted like you were making things up and I don't know why you think what I'm saying is unbelievable. I literally stated what was around our house.

I know you aren’t, you are just acting like the entire city of Austin is your backyard

Exactly. Man, I really want Latter to open up. I'm fricking running out of books to read
It took about a week, but my daughter understands the parks are closed.
They were doing pickup from some of the libraries, but I think that is done now.

You're struggling with reading comprehension bigly if you think that was me saying you're making things up.
Well I didn't. I stated what was around me in a 15-20 minutes walk/bike ride radius. Which can be referred to as one's "neighborhood." How are you having issues with this other than thinking the entire city is a concrete downtown and that's it?

I’m sorry, but it seemed as if that was a sarcastic comment, and you didn’t believe they were actually within 5 minutes.

Perhaps I’m having a hard time with it, because in the post you responded to me I was explaining what my definition of “space” was, which included all of the things I listed. Your response was literally “my city has these things”. You share these things with the public, I do not. I have space. In a time that were supposed to be staying at home, and keeping 6 ft apart from those that don’t live with us, I have better and easier access to those things. It is the premise of the thread.
I will say again, Austin is great. Would love to live there. I am not surprised at all that there are more things to do in your entire damn city (or however far you can get on a bike in 20 minutes) than in my neighborhood. But I’m not going to sit here and let you tell me you have more space than me because it is factually untrue.
You are basically having the monthly city vs suburb OT argument but ignoring the stay at home order, which is the only reason I even weighed in.

you would think they all loved in these badass Craftsman style or sprawling mansion when the fact is the stats show that's complete and utter bullshite.
I too live in a ranch style home, built in the 70's

Your response was literally “my city has these things”.
No it wasn't. It was my immediate surroundings in the city have those things. I'm not talking about things that are a 20 minute drive north of me. I'm talking about my zip code/neighborhood/etc.
quote:
You share these things with the public, I do not
You own the golf course, the parks, etc?

quote:

There you go with that straw man again. I'll ask again, why is it hard for you to comprehend that I too am talking about my neighborhood?
quote:
But I’m not going to sit here and let you tell me you have more space than me because it is factually untrue.
I never said I had more. I said I had plenty and have more than the idea you have of some apartment complex. I said I have a huge deck with additional seating areas in my yard. I have a 3br/3.5 bath at 1900sqft and it's perfect for us.

No, you're acting like the suburbs are the only place you can walk around without being less than 6 feet from everyone around you. I have no doubts that I live among more people than you do, it's the nature of the city especially with Austin having so many spots torn down for multilevel-high rise living. But you are under some delusion that I'm talking about living in Manhattan and having access to Central Park if I just go up to the opposite side of town.
I'm talking about my neighborhood. It's quite literally the reason we picked to move to it. We have all the city amenities and quick access to downtown plus the airport in addition to having more space and quick access to the beautiful natural. I will admit, this is completely different from being in Dallas which we came from. Austin is a pretty unique city, especially in Texas, in terms of blending urban life and nature so smoothly.

You said 20 minute bike ride TH. That was your only mistake

Posted on 4/23/20 at 2:15 pm to Sun God
20 minutes on a bike gets me downtown. I live on the south end of my zip code and can be at the lake that splits it from downtown in 15 minutes.

Posted on 4/23/20 at 2:18 pm to TH03
I’m not saying you’re incorrect. Just saying that’s what he is basing his entire argument on.
Posted on 4/23/20 at 2:25 pm to Sun God
I get that, but I'm talking 2.5 miles MAX.
I'm not talking about stuff north of the university when I'm down south.

Your actual response:

I have the same in the city.

There you go with that straw man again.
Holy shite you love to argue. It’s my fricking point to make, you are the one that interjected and starting arguing and redefining what I am referring to as space. I come across less people on a daily basis, that’s it. Your whole point you are arguing with me about is a straw man

quote:
You own the golf course, the parks, etc?
I can walk to my golf course and play and not come across a single person. I find value in that at this very moment in life. Can you do this?
quote:
But you are under some delusion that I'm talking about living in Manhattan and having access to Central Park if I just go up to the opposite side of town.
Quote one thing that I said that would in any way insinuate this.
I have said multiple times that I like Austin. It has fantastic amenities, I understand why you are proud to live there. I’d be willing to wager that my day to day life has changed less than yours though.

I’m sure your neighborhood is great. But listen to yourself, it is unique. I would still bet my damn house that I have more “space” than you. I don’t care about being closer to the airport. That never had anything to do with this conversation

Meaning I have the same and I live in the city. Not "my city has the same." There's a distinct difference.
quote:
redefining what I am referring to as space.
No I didn't. I never once referred to this abstract "space" outside of my last post where I conceded my area is more populated.
quote:
Your whole point you are arguing with me about is a straw man
Yes if you don't know what the word means. You said "I have a, b, and c because I live in the suburbs." I said "I have all that in my neighborhood while living in the city." You then struggled with comprehending what that meant.
quote:
I can walk to my golf course and play and not come across a single person. I find value in that at this very moment in life. Can you do this?
Golf courses are closed so no.

Quote one thing that I said that would in any way insinuate this.
Seriously? You've been acting like I'm comparing things my city has to your backyard when I'm specifically talking about my own neighborhood. Here you go though:
quote:
know you aren’t, you are just acting like the entire city of Austin is your backyard
quote:
I’d be willing to wager that my day to day life has changed less than yours though.
I'd bet any amount of money you want and you'd lose. Other than eating physically at restaurants or going to bars, my day to day hasn't changed at all. My job has been unaffected, and actually business is slightly increased.

You cut off the context there.

There you go again arguing against something I never challenged you on even if it weren't such a stupid abstract thing.
quote:
don’t care about being closer to the airport. That never had anything to do with this conversation
An again, you removed the context in which this statement made sense, you fricking hack.

I was saying my area is urban while having a more private, residential feel. I mentioned the airport and downtown to note how much of a city feel my neighborhood was.
My God you're fricking dense as shite.
