How is this tread the one getting all the attention on the OT. Jesus there’s at least 10 other topics on the board that are better then what ever is going on in here.

But bringing up tailgate steps in defense of this split tailgate
Did you not use it to defend this new tailgate? I don't know what you think personally

ETA: keep editing baw

I honestly thought this would be a 1-2 pager. But some usual suspects stepped in to argue with me because they enjoy it

Perhaps Dodge should focus more on their notoriously shitty transmission and electrical problems before they focus on tailgate novelties
You know transmission issues haven’t been a serious problem in well over 10 years right? They currently use an 8 speed that is regarded as one of the best and most reliable on the market. Never had an electrical issue either. But what would I know, I’ve only actually owned 3 Rams

Also, they choose yet again, not to focus on build quality or reliability.

How could you possibly know this unless you own one or have extensively test driven one?

So you see the usefulness? Being able to load with a fork lift, as another example.
You can load with a forklift on a normal tailgate as well.

Direct shot at GMC’s new tailgate IMO
How about a direct ripoff of Lincoln?

He has some of the worst takes in all truck threads. Dude is clueless.

On topic, that new tailgate is awesome. Not surprised there are this many pages of people that can't see that.

If the Ram has improved it's reliability, which I think it has, I think its 2019 truck is superior (or at least has caught up) to the other options available in this class.

Nobody who drives a Honda Ridgeline is hauling mulch.
No wheel well bump in the bed of a ridgeline. 4x8 sheets of drywall/ plywood slide in flat and fit perfect. If you are hating on Ridgelines you are teetering on the edge of ghey and think that driving a full size truck will prevent you from tipping into it.

Or it could be that the Ridgeline is a hideous minivan with a truck bed.

Agreed. Not something I would need or use personally (neither is a truck which is why I’m trying to get out of mine), but it’s a good idea. I’m sure it’s one of those things that people will find themselves using more than they thought they would.
It’s also funny because people in here act like Ram just spitballed this idea and threw it on the truck. In reality, they’ve probably been doing focus groups and numerous studies to ensure this is something consumers have shown interest in. Pretty sure they patented this tailgate design 4 or 5 years ago.

Understood, but this makes it easier to load the bed and not the tailgate.
It's a wash, not needed but somewhat helpful if the operator is an idiot.

I think those are most useful to people and I kind of like it.

Not a fan of dodge but I admit it seems like a nice feature. Not having to lift past the tailgate would save my back.

The Ridgeline is a good vehicle.
The Ram in the OP and the new Ford Super Duty tow up to 35,000 lbs. The new Silverado HD tows up to 35,500 lbs.
Those are targeting an entirely different market than the Ridgeline. The only things they have in common are gimmicky, overly complicated tailgates.
