Any of you distinguished gentlemen successfully quit? I tried the nicorette lozenges, to no avail. At one point I replaced smoking with dipping, which wasn't the brightest idea. Finally, I traded cigarettes for vaping for about 10 months, until I fell off the wagon.

Chantix any good?

My dad quit 30yrs ago, by just saying "frick it I quit."

My mom quit using Chantix. While using Chantix she one day suddenly realized she wasn't getting any enjoyment out of smoking and has not smoked since.

I read an article on what they put into cigarettes and how precisely they are able to create the urges/cravings. From the high of receiving the nicotine to the timing of the low/withdrawal. So, the next time that you get an overwhelming urge, think of some guy in a lab coat who has chemically engineered exactly what you're feeling at that moment and time. Tell yourself you're not going to let that a-hole win by manipulating you and that the urge will pass. And it will. Wait for the next urge and repeat this process. Eventually, the urges become weaker and you become a free man.

Used the patch. Haven't smoked in about a year and a half. Never going back.

Step #1 - You have to want to quit for yourself. Period.

Have a heart attack. My dad had one last year and made him quit immediately.

I'm on day two of taking chantix. Just one pill in the morning for first four days.
I quit smoking/dipping using it years ago and went a year with no nicotine but screwed up and had that one while drinking then it eventually turned into more and more and then full time again. I still kick myself in the arse.
You do have to eat with it if you don't want naseau for about ten minutes and from what I remember the dreams weren't to bad. Nothing scary, just weird because they seemed so real.
Good Luck

ETA: Even while taking Chantix you still have to really want to quit. It does certainly make it easier but it isn't some magic pill that requires no effort.

Just quit doing coke. It's easy when you're not cranked.

I quit after 16 years. Quitting itself is easy. Convincing yourself it's easy is the hardest part. Cold turkey is the only way to go. Good luck

I took the "Uncle Buck" route to quit cigarettes. I started smoking cigars, then moved on to a pipe. I plan on quitting smoking altogether and move onto chewing tobacco.

I quit cold turkey. No pills, patches, vape, or dip. For about 2 weeks everyone wanted to kill me but it passed. The urge never stops but you learn to control it. It's all mental. You have to want to quit. If you are quitting just because its not healthy but you still want to smoke then you wont be successful.

I used Chantix and that helped for about 6 months and then I slowly started again. I quit cold turkey in 2013 when I was coughing up a lung after every cigarette I smoked and I was no longer enjoying smoking.

All of this. I tried quitting a bunch of times but it was always for someone else not myself. It wasn't until I actually wanted to quit that I was successful.

This past new year's eve marked one year for me. Cold turkey, no gum, patches, pills, nothing. I was just ready to shut it down and that's the key. It's harder if you have to fight yourself constantly on it.

I stopped by slowly cutting down the amount I was smoking everyday. At the end I was smoking about 2-3 cigarettes a day. At that point I just quit. I never used any gums or anything. It took a while for me to stop wanting a cigarette after eating and while drinking though. Just stick with it.
