Recently sold my Google Home. Item was packaged in bubble wrap and then placed inside shipping box. Buyer is claiming that the item I sold is damaged as the fabric has a small tear.

Prior to leaving my hands, item was in immaculate condition with no holes, tears, punctures and was fully functional. The picture that I posted for the listing fully support my statement here.

Buyer tried to back out of deal after paying for it, stating that he had found another Google Home device locally. I proceeded with the sale as it was a binding agreement. Could this be his way of “getting back at me?”

In situations like this, what usually prevails here? I implied no warranty and did not offer any returns. I’m 100 % confident that the item listed was shipped exactly as described — I have only sold a few items on Swappa and have never had an issue prior to this, eBay included as well (although I understand this doesn’t have anything to do with Swappa).

I wouldn’t worry about if you already have been paid. Just ignore the guy and enjoy the weekend.

Might be my best course of action. He’s stating the shipping box was not damaged, however the fabric was torn and the unit has a dent in it.

WTF?!?

This device was placed on my counter while in use and was never moved. It was in mint condition. I can’t stand liars.

If buyer claims it's not in the condition as advertised. It's your word against his and you lose.

"All seller return policies are based on the pre-condition that the device is received as advertised and in accordance with Swappa policies. No seller may deny a return / refund when a device is not as advertised"

I sold once, buyer claimed I sent the item damaged, it wasn’t, apparently it’s very common for people to do that on there.

Yes.

Don’t know how Swappa does things but eBay is very pro buyer. This may be a lesson learned deal: 1) If a buyer changes their mind and wants out before you ship, cancel the sale and 2) buy insurance on shipped items.

The buyer states in an email that the shipping box was not damaged.

I shipped via UPS which I believe comes with $100 insurance, however they appeared to deliver the item correctly and on time.

I wrapped in a bubble wrap type package - their was absolutely no damage whatsoever to the device when I shipped it.

He paid via PayPal. I haven’t responded. What proactive steps can I take to protect myself? I would never scam anyone or mislead a buyer in a sale. The money isn’t the issue. I only received $60 for it. I don’t like my character and integrity questioned.

Then don’t deal with the general public in this capacity. Very few people have integrity anymore, and you better believe they will try and flip that on you.

Transfer the money out of the PayPal account assuming Swappa doesn’t lock up the payment like eBay does when there is a dispute. You could also file a damage claim with UPS. Not sure how UPS is in processing claims, USPS is pretty good.
