Got no clue on this but I'd guess its gonna use a watt meter like your electric meter on your house. Probably around 12-14 cents per KWH. Batteries fro 60 to 85 KWH I believe.

So maybe $6 - $12 dollars depending on your particular batter and percent of charge.

ETA: Model S does provide for free charging at Tesla Supercharger stations, as indicated by Soccerfut.

Is it true the battery degrades 10% every year?

According to the Tesla website, their US average cost to use electrical power in lieu of gasoline was put at one-fifth of the cost of $2.90/ gallon gasoline. I don't know what the average kW/hour cost is in the US, figure $0.20 and you can figure that the Tesla Supercharging stations are only "giving" the customer $2.00 or $3.00 worth of electricity for a full charge. Less cost than that if it's only (and almost always will be) a partial charge.

Average is closer to .12. Looks like the average usage for the car is about 350 kWh per Miles so that's roughly .04 per miles. Gasoline is around $2 per gallon now in Louisiana but well say 2.20 for estimating purposes. If your car gets 20 miles per gallon, that's about .11/miles.

Not a bad return but expensive up front. Some logistical issues for people like me who do not travel to places where recharging is easy.

From everything I've read, the servicing on the car is simpler and cheaper too because of the design. That's a big factor for someone like me that buys German cars.

The area that you appear to live in is tailor made for these vehicles, currently. Higher gasoline prices and more charging stations. The cost, both maintenance and environmentally will come when the batteries begin depleting. Very expensive batteries and heavy metals to dispose of or try to re-purpose. Time will tell.

It really is. When I do the math and really look at the quality I'd get with a Tesla, it's really an easy decision.

They need to put the charging stations near restaurants so you can charge your car while you grab a meal. That way you're not just sitting there completely wasting time.
