How many people are going to start claiming to have symptoms or even claim to have the Kung Flu just to stay home?
Our policy that predates Wuhan Virus is that if you don't work for 3 days, you need a doctor's release to return to work.
This applies no matter where you may be working.
Just because I'm home doesn't mean I can just be off the clock for days without seeing a doctor or jeopardizing my employment.

That said, I've actually heard from a reliable source that Jones Walker -- the biggest law firm in the city -- is either requiring employees to come in or has not articulated any kind of policy vis-a-vis the virus. Seems laughable.
That’s fricking pathetic.
And the vague or unarticulated “policy” is how they dance around looking like the shitbags they are.

The big firms are taking the "let's see if someone tests positive first" approach.
There was a big conference call yesterday between the big firms. They are letting "the millennials" work from home while the older group is still coming in.

Maybe they put their faith in God instead of the CDC. With all due respect, I'm going with the CDC on this one

Announced work from home policy today. Essentially encouraged anyone who has the right equipment and can do their job remotely to do so effective immediately. Many (especially in IT) had already begun doing so in advance of the official announcement.

I know a non-attorney that works for them has to take unpaid days off to take care of their child (because of school closures).

Well they get what they get, that’s one way to open up some partnership spots.
And it would be fine if it was just their dumb asses that were to be affected, but it’s not. That’s why the CBD should have been closed down - you can’t always leave it up to people to do the right thing or make the best decisions.

Yea it's definitely not the prudent approach.
From what I gathered the conference call had an air of "the pussies can work from home and the real men will carry on as usual"
Meanwhile one of lawyers from Baker is lying in the ICU from this.

We have had no announcements at all for the general office employees. It's just business as usual.

And of course they have some likely bullshite announcement about it:
quote:
We are closely following guidelines from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and applicable federal, state, and local government entities on appropriate actions to minimize the impact of COVID-19. Among many other initiatives, we have significantly increased the frequency and depth of the cleanings our offices receive, added disinfecting stations to enable extra cleaning of personal work items and workspaces, limited nonessential travel, and recommended using videoconferencing and phone calls when feasible.
Additionally, we have the support, technology, and capacity to assist our attorneys and teams working remotely to respond and to serve client needs.
