Question for any OT Dentists/Orthodontists

My permanent retainer on lower teeth became dislodged today.
I know this is not an optimal time for such a thing.
Are dentists still seeing emergencies such as this at this time?

Mine was. I checked to see if they were open and scheduled an appointment on April 6... but I'm thinking I might cancel that. Apparently the ADA recommended dentists not see any patients barring an emergency until around that time.

If it's severely dislodged a dentist might not touch it. I popped 2 of mine off, but since it was still essentially in place, my dentist had no issue gluing it back, but he indicated he might not before looking at it.

I don't think that would qualify as an emergency at this time. If it is cutting your tongue, just get some orthodontic wax from the pharmacy and cover it with that.
La State board just sent out an email encouraging dentists not to see pts except for extreme emergencies. They added that they have received many complaints about dentists not following emergency only orders.

My permanent retainer came out in 2006.
Still have the cement dots that it attached to.
No problems. No shifting. You’ll be fine.

A dentist visit is interesting right now.
You drive into the parking lot and call the office to let them know you have arrived. When they are ready to see you they call back and then meet you at the door.
Only the patient is allowed into the office.

quote:mine came out some time in the mid 2000's as well and not enough shifting to notice thus far. My original orthodontist had already retired. I guess my dentist office cleaned off the cement stuff.
