Question for air conditioner guys.

Short version: Had problems the summer before last keeping the house cool in the heat of the day out of the blue.
Blamed it on having an older unit and got a whole new set up last Spring.
Unit is more than enough for my square footage. It's working fine. Blowing cool air. House cools right down at night.
Duct work is fine.
Insulation is fine.
Finally had a guy tell me he thought that additions that have been made had outrun our attic venting. Had an additional turbine installed. It didn't help. I don't know that much about this stuff but the one thing I have noticed is that the new turbine doesn't seem to spin as fast as the others so I wonder if airflow is affecting it's effectiveness on it's side of the attic.
Guy that put the turbine in wanted to see if it worked and then was gonna try new gables.
If you have a brand new unit that is more than enough for your footage which is functioning fine and your duct work is ok, what can it be if upping the venting doesn't work?

Are you absutely sure that the unit is working correctly? Did you have this trouble just after the unit was installed?

Problem just happened 2 summers ago out of the blue on an older, smaller unit. Replaced it with a brand new, much bigger unit that is more than enough for my sf. Can't pull below 75 in the heat of the day.

Installed a new 5ton unit past year. A little bit bigger than what was required.

Can you tell me the square footage of your house, size of unit, and temp of air coming out of the vents?
Also, when you slightly open a door to the outside, does hot air blow in or does cold air blow out? Does that change when your AC unit turns on or off?

I have seen this problem a few times during my 20 years as a hvac tech. It usually is a problem in the attic most of the time. When the insulation is up to par and it's still too hot we install a power venter to help get the heat out. It is inexpensive and always works. Jmo.

Yeah, that's what I was expecting too but trouble shooting by a few different guys finds no problems with my unit or duct work yet when it's in the 90's, I can't my house cooler than 75.

Thanks. I think it's gotta be attic venting. If the new turbine is turning slower than the old ones, it's an airflow problem, right? Would a gable on that end of the house make it work like it supposed to?

Isn't your unit oversized if you can cool more than 20 deg below outside temp? 75 seems pretty good to me when its 95 out.

3 1/2 ton unit for 2000 sf.
Cold air blows out with door cracked and unit on.
Can't measure temp from vents but it's cold.

Sorry to hijack your thread but I also have an AC question.
I have a 12 year old unit with a slow freon leak that requires topping off once a year the past 2 years. With this recent heat wave I camt get the house any cooler than 80. What kind of cost am I looking at the fix this issue?

interesting...that is seldom the case...
two things that I can thik of off the top of my head would cause that....your return air could be sucking some air from the attic instead of inside of your house or electric attic vents could be wired backwards and blowing into your attic instead of blowing the hot air out...
are the vents on your attic electric or just whirlybirds (wind powered)?....

have you noticed whether they actually turn the right direction to pull air out of your attic?
fwiw, I have three on my house and one of them turns the wrong direction....it is over a cathedral ceiling, though...
ETA: also, do you have any of that flexible shite on the suction air side of your unit between the unit and the air filter or is it all hard piped?

Took a square of toilet paper and the return vents that I know about are all pulling.
I'm not an hvac guy, obviously, just working on general knowledge, but if a whirley is turning slow and its out by itself from others that are turning fast, it needs inflow from somewhere on its end that it's not getting, right?
