Probably definitely more fun that way but not equivalent. You'll almost assuredly consume way more calories on the days you do that preventing any headway you could be making on the weight loss.

Best thing I know of that you can do is learning to do fasting. Here's a good article to that end.

The gist: People who try to cut out fat from their diets, etc., barely move the needle on cholesterol levels. I don't know, maybe lowering sugar might help more than other types of diets, but diet is not the best way to get results.
Fasting works because when your body goes a certain period of time without fuel (food) it switches from burning sugar to burning fat internally.
The article mentions alternate day fasting. I'm not sure what that is exactly. There's variations to how to intermittently fast. I think limiting yourself to eating during an 8 hour window per day is the most common.

I recieved slightly high negative cholesterol results last May and did a routine of Keto for 4 months without a consistent level of exercise and had notably lower levels in November. Lost about 15-20 lbs as well. I'd say overall my strictness level was very strict for the first two months and then moderate for the next two.
