Unless it's month to month, they would never do this.

It probably has language saying that after the 12 months, it's month to month with 30 days notice required from either party to void the lease. That option wouldn't be available until 12 months is up.

So basically if you want to move after 1 year, you must give them 30 days notice (probably in writing) that you are moving out.

This is very common these days, and some landlords are going to 45 days or longer.
